What is the buddy programme?
The first few weeks in a foreign country are often the most challenging. You've yet to get used to your new surroundings, as well as the local customs, and way of life in Germany.
This is where the buddy programme comes in! We will pair you up with a local student (click here if you are a local student). He or she will then be your buddy, and will help you settle into Bayreuth. Your buddy may, for example, show you around town, show you how to get the best out of student life in Bayreuth, or help you to get organised during your first few weeks.
Who will be my buddy?
Our buddies are existing University of Bayeuth students who are interested in getting to know people from all around the world and who would like to help international students get used to life in Bayreuth. All our buddies are volunteers!
Depending on the number of people who register for the programme, you may also "share" your buddy with another international student.
What happens after my registration?
We will match you with your buddy based on the information you provide. As soon as we've found you a buddy, you and your buddy will receive each other's contact details via e-mail. This will happen before the start of the semester. You should then contact each other. Maybe you already have some questions that your buddy could help you with? At the beginning of the semester there will also be a Buddy Evening where all international and German buddies will meet. You will be able to meet your buddy in person there if you have not already done so by then.
NOTE: Usually we receive more applications from international students than the number of available buddies in Bayreuth. Unfortunately this means we cannot guarantee that we will find a buddy for you. Should this be the case, buddies will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
